Angola has taken a major step towards rebuilding its industrial base with the opening of its first operational vehicle assembly plant, signalling renewed ambition to reduce heavy reliance on imported cars and buses.

1.Angola has opened its first active vehicle assembly plant in Luanda, led by Opaia Motors.

2.The facility can produce 22,000 cars and 1,000 buses annually, marking a revival of domestic vehicle manufacturing.

3.Passenger vehicles will be imported from China, buses from Sweden’s Volvo.

4.The project aims to cut imports, explore exports, and eventually introduce electric vehicles.
